The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) Partners with Avo to Digitally Transform the Gold Report

New York, NY – The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), a society focused on COPD advocacy and evidence-based guidelines, is partnering with Avo, a software platform that brings clinical evidence into the workflow to help clinicians streamline decisions and save time. This collaboration with GOLD will allow pulmonologists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals to access GOLD’s latest COPD treatment strategies in a digitized and more actionable format at the point-of-care and in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), as well as on the GOLD website. Clinicians can access the new tool here from their internet browsers.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the third leading cause of death worldwide and is associated with frequent hospital visits and a significant negative impact on quality of life. Primary care physicians play a major role in caring for patients with COPD, as they monitor disease progression, exacerbations, medication adherence and individual action plans. At the same time, many patients do not receive treatment adhering to GOLD recommendations due to lack of awareness and ineffective diagnostic tools at the point-of-care (1). By partnering with Avo, primary care physicians, pulmonologists, and others caring for COPD patients will be able to access step by step guidance from GOLD directly in their EHR and customizable to their workflow, as a means of helping clinicians reduce COPD disease progression and COPD-related hospitalizations.

Transforming the 2024 GOLD Report into an actionable clinician tool

Avo is now live with the 2024 GOLD Strategy for the Diagnosis, Management and Prevention of COPD. By incorporating GOLD’s strategies into Avo's intuitive user interface, clinicians can quickly access key COPD guidance in a digitized format, enabling them to deliver high-quality care to their patients while saving time. Importantly, healthcare organizations can integrate Avo into their EHR, allowing clinicians to automate documentation and ordering workflows, which will digest information directly from GOLD’s guidelines and data from the patient chart to ensure that treatment recommendations are of the highest clinical standards. For example, clinicians will be able to auto-draft assessment and plan notes leveraging GOLD’s guidelines and specific information on the patient, saving them valuable time in their everyday workflow. Avo’s Builder platform allows organizations to customize these clinician-facing tools according to their needs in a “drag and drop” fashion, requiring minimal-to-no IT resourcing to standardize care.

Dr. Alvar Agusti, Chair of the GOLD Board of Directors said, “GOLD is excited for the opportunity to offer parts of the 2024 GOLD report in a digitized, easy to follow format targeted to clinicians at the point of care.  We hope this tool allows for more access to these important guidelines, improving patient care and disease burden.”

Best-in-class COPD guidance integrated at the point of care

The partnership between GOLD and Avo highlights the crucial need to equip healthcare professionals with accessible, evidence-based information for the effective management of COPD, while also helping drive their efficiency.

Avo Chairman and Head of Product and Engineering, Joongheum Park, M.D., is excited about the partnership saying, "Our GOLD partnership will empower clinicians to easily access critical information and broaden their approach to handling COPD cases. Avo's user-friendly interface, coupled with GOLD's trusted guidelines, will improve the way many clinicians approach complex COPD cases and ultimately drive better patient outcomes for one of the deadliest diseases worldwide."

Randomized control trials and implementations have shown that Avo provides clinicians significant efficiency gains at the point-of-care, while improving patient outcomes and reducing costs. Importantly, clinicians love using Avo, with nearly 100% of recent users advocating for expanded Avo access at their health system.
