Avo was built for clinicians, by clinicians.

As an internal medicine physician and clinical informatician, Dr. Joongheum Park (“PJ”), like most clinicians today, became burned out by the large amount of medical knowledge and administrative tasks required of him during his time at New York Presbyterian-Columbia. A self-taught engineer and AI expert, PJ decided to develop software applications that would help him save time and make more informed clinical decisions. While conducting a fellowship at Columbia University in informatics, Dr. Yair Saperstein met PJ and described his frustrations with clinical pathways, having served on the implementation team for multiple Epic go-lives only to realize that clinicians don’t have time to actually use the pathways given to them in the EHR.

Together, they decided it was time to ditch thousands of pages of PDF guidelines, overwhelming paper protocols, and sticky note reminders, and instead give clinicians an easy way to practice evidence-based care, while also reducing burnout. PJ and Yair teamed up with Laurence Coman, the son of two physicians who had a passion for marrying technology and healthcare, and founded Avo to build technology that transforms the practice of medicine for the better.
